St. James A.M. E. Church will host an African American History Month Celebration on
February 25 - 26, 2012. The program honors the contributions and achievements of African
Americans. On Saturday, February 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a Health Fair
that includes Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton and Denton Department of Health.
They will offer free medical screenings, nutrition and physical fitness, and health
resources. We expect guest speakers from DATCU Credit Union, Denton Black Chamber of
Commerce, University of North Texas History Department, and MetLife. They will talk
about saving/investing money, starting a business, civil rights, religion and education.
Our St. James’ historians will present poetry, skits, an inventors’ exhibit, and
display posters from several local schools. The program culminates on Sunday,
February 26, from 3-5 p.m., with a Musical Concert bringing choirs, soloists and singing
groups together from Denton County. African attire is welcomed.  940-220-9054 or 940-387-1223.
