elcome to the Fall/Winter 2006 edition of Denton Live magazine. In May, Mayor Euline Brock completed her term in office and I stepped into what I already knew from my two terms as Mayor Pro Tem to be an exciting and challenging position. I’m very excited about the opportunity to serve the community in the position of Mayor.
Denton is a unique, autonomous community that is a pivotal anchor for the North Texas region. Established in 1857, the City of Denton is the county seat of Denton County, with a magnificent 106-year-old courthouse surrounded by an inviting square and auxiliary streets with an eclectic collection of locally owned shops, restaurants, and clubs.
Denton is home to a lively arts scene with numerous music venues and festivals. Being home to two major universities (40,000 students), the city is full of creative, inventive, academic, and forward-thinking people. Denton is also capitalizing on regional growth by positioning itself as “North of Ordinary” in the region. The city is partnering with county, state, and federal agencies, as well as private developers, to create a network of modern streets and roadways. Our airport is becoming a local transportation asset that compliments our position as a regional center for retail, employment, medical and social services, education, entertainment and recreation, sports, and the arts. The new Presbyterian Hospital, the expansion of Denton Regional Medical Center, and numerous specialty facilities have established Denton as a major medical treatment center.
We urge you to get to know us and participate in a life that is distinctly Denton.
See you at the festivals!

Dr. Perry R. McNeill, P.E.
Mayor of Denton
