Eat Your vegetables!
“There’s only two things that money can’t buy, and that’s true love and homegrown tomatoes,” goes the Guy Clark song, but you can prove it wrong at the Denton County Farmer’s Market. Pick up some juicy red tomatoey goodness along with peppers, onions, watermelons, and anything else Denton County farmers have to offer Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays June through September. Find the market in the Bayless-Selby House Museum parking lot at the corner of Mulberry Street and Carroll Boulevard. Open from 7 a.m. until noon or sellout.

Acoustic Lawn Jam
For a relaxed (and free!) way to enjoy Denton’s live music scene, head to the Courthouse- on-the-Square Saturday mornings for the Acoustic Lawn Jam. A favorite since 1994, the jam brings together musicians of all ages, interests, and abilities. Playing everything from guitar to spoons and fiddle to Autoharp, musicians work their way through bluegrass, old country, and rock-and-roll tunes along with the occasional hymn. Bring a blanket and plan to sing along. Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

whole lotta Shakin’ downtown
Elvis may have left the building, but he’s remembered during the celebration of National Elvis Week. The Elvis is Rockin’ Downtown Denton Scavenger Hunt runs August 9–14. Pick up a ballot at participating stores, then prowl through downtown shops and restaurants to find Elvis memorabilia. Turn in a completed ballot to be eligible for fun prizes; previous years’ winners have headed to Graceland for week-end getaways or taken home life-size talking Elvis cutouts.
